I filled this position when it was called Assistant Level 1 Manager. My interest was in filling the gap some students felt after class and before passing L1. I see my role as all club all lake mentor. Ive taught in L1 class to sailing on the L3/4 boats in the North Channel. And while I cant answer all questions I know who to direct new students (and members) to. For example Heidi Dzendzel and her wonderful team for all things Stony. I also help to co-ordinate our Practice Sail Organizers just to keep things even. This year Joan Swain has joined the team to focus on welcoming all students at all lakes and following up on their progress and experience. We see this as a very positive way to continually improve our club and student experiences. I appreciate her involvement and personal touch. I hope you check out the “Student” tab on the web site (www.sailASI.org) and even start learning knots. Theres a lot of good information and student documents there.
If you as a student need any club info or advise on your sailing journey just ask any one of us.
We will be glad to answer questions, clarify your concerns and assist in guiding you to your next steps with the club.
On a related matter if you plan to give practice sails this season please pencil in Wed May 7th at 6:30 to attend JoAnne’s instructors/mentors seminar. We strongly believe we all should be giving the same information to students and this is the perfect way to update and touch up your knowledge and the ASI way. See you at Wayne State U./Oakland Center, Farmington Hills .
